Perez concerned about tough battle with Ferrari: 'Catch one at least'

5 May - 17:25

Sergio Perez finished in fourth place in qualifying at the Miami Grand Prix, after finishing third during the Sprint race. As a result, the two Red Bull cars will be split on the grid by the two Ferrari drivers. The Mexican looked ahead to the race in the state of Florida.

Perez misses out in Qualifying

'Checo' found himself behind the two Ferraris after qualifying, as finished in P4 just behind Carlos Sainz by 0.005 seconds. "It was a very tight battle. A tenth or two would have put me on pole, so it was all very tight. Unfortunately, I didn't get my first run in Q3 sorted, so it's something that we lost, and the track, I think, was a little bit slower also in that final run, so I did not really maximise my potential, but I think it was the same for everyone," he commented on his qualifying performancee to the press in the paddock.

He added: "When you are so close, unfortunately I was on the wrong side of the tenth, a couple of hundredths on our qualifying would have looked a lot different. I'm disappointed to be fourth, but I'm happy in other ways that we had very strong pace at times."

Tough battle ahead

As a result, the Mexican driver will now how to overtake his rivals to finish on the podium on Sunday. "I think they [Ferrari] are strong, and they will be a strong opponent tomorrow [Sunday], so we will see what we are able to do. A little bit [it can come down to the race start], but it's not everything. I think if we are able to get one of them or two, it will be great."
