Russell proud of team: 'Today we had everything in order'

George Russell pulled off a surprise in Hungary on Saturday afternoon by setting the fastest lap in qualifying and securing pole position. Speaking to Viaplay, he admits he didn't expect to start at the front either.
Mercedes has made some big improvements over the last few race weekends, but has still failed to reach pole position this year. That changed in Hungary, however, as thanks to a strong lap from Russell, the German racing team can start at the front on Sunday afternoon.
"A little bit to be honest," Russell revealed. "I knew we had improved the car, but it shows that F1 is about details. Everything is about details. And today we had everything in place and just did it."
Russell stays sharp for race
However, the Briton revealed that he is still a long way from achieving this. With both Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz behind him, he has two strong Ferrari drivers at his back who will try to take victory in the race. With Sergio Perez and Max Verstappen starting in midfield, they are expected to make up a lot of points.
