AlphaTauri team boss Franz Tost has revealed to GPblog that Nyck de Vries will complete the Young Drivers Test for the team. The Austrian also expressed expectations.

For Red Bull Racing's sister team, De Vries will make his appearance as a regular driver in the premier class in 2023. The decision came after a special year for De Vries, as it will already be the fifth Formula 1 car he drives in 2022. Earlier, he drove free practice for Williams and was allowed to stand in for the sick Alexander Albon at the same team in Monza. He also competed for Mercedes and Aston Martin during practice sessions. He also completed another test at the Hungaroring for Alpine in last season's car. After his strong foray into Monza, there was a lot of interest from several teams until the Dutchman's choice fell to AlphaTauri.

Clear expectations

Now Tost has also confirmed that De Vries will make his unofficial debut for AlphaTauri the day after the Abu Dhabi GP. Speaking to GPblog, he said the following: "Nyck de Vries will be the only driver in action at the Young Drivers Test and Yuki (Tsunoda) is doing the tyre test."

When asked what De Vries' expectations are during the test and next season, Tost said,"The expectations are clear, hopefully, he will be able to drive as many laps as possible, will learn the car, get familiar with the team and be well prepared for next year."
