Horner saw positive Verstappen Day 1 Bahrain testing

Horner saw a positive Verstappen: 'Just delivers'

While Max Verstappen did not drive on Thursday at the pre-season test in Bahrain, he already did so on Wednesday afternoon. The Dutchman's team principal, Christian Horner, could only praise the four-time world champion after his first run in the desert.

'Verstappen seemed pretty positive'

Talking to F1 TV in Sakhir, Horner explained how Verstappen did on the Wednesday. "Max just turns up and delivers, and his long runs yesterday were strong, and he gave some great feedback," the Briton praised the Dutchman.

Overall on Day 1, Verstappen set the third quickest time, finishing only behind Lando Norris and George Russell. According to him, the four-time world champion was in a good mood in the garage. "He seemed pretty positive about the day, and gives the engineers a lot to be working through both here and back in the UK, back in Milton Keynes, trawling through all the data."

'Enthusiastic' Lawson

On Thursday, only Liam Lawson drove the RB21, while an entire day of testing awaits Verstappen on Friday. About the New Zealander, Horner said: "We're going to have to give him a little bit of time. He's only done 11 Grands Prix. So he's not quite a rookie, but he's not far off. It's a big step for him. But he's got broad shoulders, and he's got a good racing head on him. And I think he'll be fine. He's a tough character and very, very determined. So, it's great to have that enthusiasm in the car."

Today, the driver who was promoted from VCARB (now called Racing Bulls) set the seventh quickest lap time with the Red Bull Racing car.
