How Helmut Marko reacted to Red Bull's problems in Bahrain

Red Bull Racing's good feeling is still there after the second day of testing in Bahrain. Speaking to GPblog, Helmut Marko revealed that Liam Lawson's day was not ideal, but it was also a different programme for the Austrian racing stable.

''We were a bit handicapped by the rain, so we could not do all our programmes. Other than that, it was a normal day of testing. We went through several programmes,'' Marko began after the second day in Bahrain.

A problem with the water pressure caused Lawson to be sidelined for some time in the morning. Not ideal and it cost the young Red Bull driver some 40 minutes, Marko said. The New Zealander thus missed out on testing time, time that he in particular could put to good use. With only 11 Grands Prix to his name and a race weekend debut for Red Bull Racing imminent, Lawson can put all the mileage to good use.

Besides the problems with the water pressure, Lawson was also unlucky in that respect with the rain. That caused Lawson to be out of action for an hour in the morning. So all in all, almost two hours lost out of a total of 12 hours of testing for Lawson.

Why Marko is still positive

''It would have been better without those problems, but we did what we could do and are in line,'' Marko stated. On Wednesday, Marko was very positive about Red Bull Racing's performance, that feeling also prevailed on Thursday despite a lesser day. Indeed, according to Marko, Lawson was working on another programme anyway, and not performance runs.

''Tomorrow (Friday) I think will be important. All the experience we gained today (Thursday) we can take into tomorrow's programme.''

On Wednesday, Marko still thought Ferrari was somewhat disappointing in terms of performance, but on day two Ferrari was much better. Marko saw that too, although he did comment on Ferrari's performance.

''They looked very competitive today, but Max was not driving for us. Besides, we had a problem with the water pressure, so we just lost a lot of time,'' the Austrian concluded to a question from GPblog.
