For Lando Norris, second place at the Chinese Grand Prix was a real surprise. The Brit had some fantastic pace behind the wheel of his McLaren around the Shanghai International Circuit, only finishing behind a dominant Max Verstappen, and ahead of Sergio Perez and the two Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. Now, with updates coming for the Miami Grand Prix, the 24-year-old is feeling optimistic.

Why Norris is 'optimistic' for Miami Grand Prix

Last year, it was a race to forget for McLaren at the Miami Grand Prix, with Norris finishing in P17 and Oscar Piastri, his teammate, finishing in P19. However, since then, many updates have graced the papaya-coloured team, and their results improved drastically, which saw Norris and Piastri climb the drivers' standings in 2023 and finish P6 and P9, respectively.

In 2024, McLaren and Norris have continued with that form and pace from 2023, highlighted by that podium in China, and the Brit believes that there is even more to come for him and his team, starting next week in Miami.

"Momentum is not just building, it's been there for a long time. So no, nothing needs to be built," said a positive Norris, speaking to F1TV after his second place in China. "I've had confidence in the team for a long time. I've had faith that we can improve for a long time, and we have been improving for a long time."

Another podium has also been achieved by Norris in 2024, taking third place at the Australian Grand Prix, and there is a sense of optimism surrounding the McLaren team that there will be many more challenges to come for the rest of the season.

"We've had a good start to the years," Norris concluded. "We've continued to show that, and we've got good things coming. So the optimism remains there going into Miami."
