Max Verstappen in 2024

Verstappen secured his third World Championship at the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix weekend. It was a season of utter dominance, including a record run of 10 wins, surpassing Sebastian Vettel’s record, which was also set with the Red Bull team. With his success on the track, media attention has been focused on Verstappen, but this hasn’t affected the way that the Red Bull driver has approached his season.

Verstappen became the first driver to win the World Championship on a Saturday, as he needed just a handful of points in the Sprint race. In the end, Sergio Perez crashed out, and therefore, Verstappen had a big enough gap to call himself World Champion for the third consecutive year. At this point, there were still six Grands Prix and two sprint races remaining on the calendar.

The World Championship didn't mean Verstappen stopped pushing in 2023. The Dutchman ended up with 19 wins. In 2024, Verstappen started exactly where he left off despite the turmoil within the Red Bull team. He won the opening two races in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Verstappen won the Chinese Grand Prix for the first time in 2024. The F1 circus hadn't visited the venue since 2019 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Dutchman dominated the race and achieved victory at his 26th different venue. He is yet to win at the Singapore Grand Prix and that is the only event on the current calendar which he is yet to win.

Max Verstappen biography

The Dutchman’s success in karting and single-seater racing handed him his drive in Formula 1 and allowed him to become the youngest-ever driver in the sport. In his debut season, he scored multiple point finishes driving for Toro Rosso.

Just four races into his second season in F1, he was promoted to Red Bull, and the rest is history. Two World Championships and counting, Verstappen is hunting down more records.

Three-time World Champion

The Dutchman’s switch from Toro Rosso to Red Bull didn’t take long, as the team was in a period of limbo with their drivers, but when it was completed, it was clear it was the right choice. In his opening race for the team in Barcelona, Verstappen conquered the grid and took his first race victory of his career. By doing so, he moved ahead of Sebastian Vettel as the youngest driver to win an F1 Grand Prix at 18 years and 228 days old.

Verstappen won just nine races across the next four seasons as Mercedes continued to dominate, but in 2021, his goal of becoming an F1 World Champion became a reality in Abu Dhabi. Fans see it as potentially one of the most controversial races in the sport's history, but Red Bull and Verstappen will see it as the day he conquered the world.

Wind the clock forward a year, and it moved from one to two. Verstappen and Red Bull dominated and won both the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship in the same season, showcasing the hard work and dedication of the drivers’ and staff. A repeat occurred in 2023.

Record Breaker Verstappen

On the 3rd of September, he etched his name into the history books as he became the first driver ever to win 10 Grands Prix in a row. The Dutchman stole the record from Vettel when he was driving for the Austrian team. The potential for more Verstappen records is almost endless.

Max Verstappen popularity

Verstappen is one of the most popular drivers on the grid, certainly in his home country of the Netherlands. The Dutch Grand Prix was added to the calendar in recent years because of Verstappen. He is the face of the future for the sport but also has gained popularity due to his friendship with the rest of the ‘golden generation’ of F1. He regularly livestreams and plays simulator games, allowing him to draw in an online audience and add to his ever-growing fanbase.

What is Max Verstappen's greatest strength as an F1 driver?

It’s hard to pick and choose Verstappen’s strengths on track because he has so many. However, his sheer pace in the Red Bull is the immediate one that can’t be ignored. He has been able to draw the absolute maximum out of his car, and the results back it up. His guts, determination and general skill behind the wheel are something that has propelled him to the top of the sport.

Max Verstappen in the 2024 Formula 1 season

Verstappen will continue to drive with Red Bull Racing in 2024 alongside Sergio Perez. The Dutchman will start his 10th season in Formula 1 and be on the hunt for his 4th World Championship. He is the favourite to win the title again. Only Sebastian Vettel, Lewis Hamilton, Juan Manuel Fangio and Michael Schumacher have managed to win four in a row. Schumacher even went on to win five in a row.
