Ferrari welcomes a familiar face from Formula 1 as main sponsor
- GPblog.com
Spanish bank Santander will once again be the main sponsor of the Ferrari Formula One team in 2022 after signing a multi-year deal. It seems that Carlos Sainz played an important role in that and so a new contract for the Spaniard is also being looked at.
The bank was also a sponsor in Formula 1 before, namely when Fernando Alonso joined the Italian team in 2010. Sainz's growing popularity in Formula 1 and with the team have probably made the partner want to be a sponsor again in the top of motorsport. Moreover, the deal that has now been struck with Ferrari also extends to the Driver Academy, the World Endurance Championship and Le Mans.
Both Ferrari president John Elkann and Ana Botín, president of Santander, are very happy with this deal. The bank is currently mainly involved in renewable energy financing and that is very good news for the Italian team. Ferrari has a goal of being carbon neutral by 2030 and Santander's commitment to tackling climate change means they are willing to help the team make the car industry green. "Our new partnership with Ferrari will accelerate our common progress," Botín told Motorsportweek.

New contract?
Charles Leclerc will be at Ferrari for the next few years anyway, as with his contract extension he has signed to stay with the team until 2024. Teammate Sainz has signed a deal until the end of 2022, but it seems very likely that a contract extension is on the cards for the Spaniard. It is now rumoured that the 27-year-old driver is close to signing a contract already, but we have yet to wait for confirmation.
