Spa-Francorchamps is currently undergoing significant changes to make the Belgian circuit safer for drivers and more comfortable for the public. On the website of the Ardennes racetrack you can see the progress of the work every week.
Work on the track
The circuit will undergo several modifications, especially the corners Bruxelles (corner 8), Blanchimont (corners 16 and 17) and La Source (corner 1) will be tackled. The modifications are necessary for the official approval of the FIM so that the 24H SPA EWC Motos can be held in June. The works are mainly related to the extension of the run-off lanes and the installation of a gravel pit.
Several serious accidents have taken place at the Belgian circuit in recent years, including the fatal accident of Anthoine Hubert in 2019. Last season there was another heavy crash of Lando Norris in qualifying and there was a massive crash during the W Series involving six drivers including Dutch Beitske Visser.
Besides the work on the track itself, also the public facilities will be addressed. Spa-Francorchamps will undergo a major infrastructure upgrade. Pictures of the progress of the works can be seen on the website of Spa-Francorchamps.
