Ferrari keen to challenge for world title: 'Next season crucial'
- GPblog.com
Last season Ferrari managed to put the dramatic 2020 year behind them. The Italian team managed to finish third in the Constructors' Championship and could therefore be satisfied with the season. According to Gerhard Berger, Ferrari still has to improve a lot though.
The 62-year-old Austrian was in Formula 1 between 1984 and 1997, where he drove for Ferrari among others. Therefore, Berger knows like no other how the team is put together. In conversation with La Gazzetta dello Sport he complimented the Italians on their hard work, but he feels that Ferrari is still a long way from achieving their goal.
According to Berger, team boss Mattia Binotto's team needs to make quick moves so that it can compete with Mercedes and Red Bull Racing next season. "Ferrari hopes to win races and be significant in the battle for the world title," Berger stated. "Next season is therefore crucial for Ferrari and its fans."
Ferrari wait for a world title for a long time
It's been a long time since Ferrari last took the world title. In the 2007 season, Kimi Räikkönen managed to take the top prize in Brazil. In the past fourteen seasons, it has been McLaren, Brawn GP, Red Bull and Mercedes who have won the world championship.
