Ferrari has announced the lineup of the Ferrari Driver Academy for 2022. The list includes Mick Schumacher, Robert Shwartzman and Arthur Leclerc. The Dutch Maya Weug may also stay on. Callum Illott is taking a gap year for his participation in the IndyCar Series, while Marcus Armstrong is to leave from the program.
In total, there are nine names on the list, seven of which are men and two women. Among them are mainly drivers from Formula 3 and Formula 4. Ferrari team boss Mattia Binotto was present to welcome the new pupils.
Ferrari hopes for repeat of Leclerc
After Charles Leclerc 's success story, Ferrari hopes to repeat it with the young talents of the prestigious academy. "This year, seven young men and two young women will work towards their ultimate goal of racing in Formula 1," Binotto explains on the official website of Ferrari.
"The dream for them and for us is to do the same as Charles Leclerc, who is about to start his fourth season for the Scuderia," the Italian added. The performance pressure is extremely high, but we are undoubtedly going to hear more from the drivers who can withstand it in the future.
