Alpine takes into account a similar situation to Red Bull and Mercedes
- GPblog.com
Alpine is on the rise within Formula 1. The former Renault had a successful season in 2021, in which Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon both managed to reach the podium. The latter even achieved his first victory. Laurent Rossi, CEO of the team, outlines Alpine's ambitions before the start of the new season.
The French racing team finished fifth in the 2021 Constructors' Championship, as it did the year before. However, expectations for 2022 are high and the bar has therefore been raised, Alonso hinted after the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. According to the Spaniard, the team is strong in many areas, but the whole package needs to become a bit more competitive.
Alpine aims for the top
Rossi emphasized in conversation with Motorsport-Total.com that the brand's goals are long-term. According to him, Formula 1 is about winning until the end of the next regulatory period. Therefore, the team's focus is on the introduction of the new regulations in 2022 and the following years.
As an example, he cites Red Bull Racing and Mercedes. According to Rossi, the current top teams also took four to five years to create the team they envisioned. Alpine is therefore taking a similar timeline into account. According to Rossi, the team has all the tools to reach the top, considering everyone is starting more or less from scratch.
