Ferrari brought in engineers from Mercedes and Red Bull: 'Gain insight'
- GPblog.com
Ferrari still has a big name in Formula 1, but it has not managed to win a world title since 2007. In that year it was Kimi Räikkönen who won the World Championship for Ferrari. However, the Italian racing team is working hard to change this.
Ferrari came close to winning the world title in 2018 and 2019. With Sebastian Vettel, Ferrari managed to keep up with Lewis Hamilton in the first half of the season, but after the summer it proved an impossible task to beat the brit.
At Ferrari, the switch went through those seasons. La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote that the Italians chose at the time to take several engineers away from Mercedes and Red Bull Racing. "This allowed them to gain insight into the work done by other teams and understand their strengths and weaknesses," the Italian medium explained.
Ferrari experienced a challenging season
The effect was not immediately positive, however, as Ferrari found itself in dire straits in 2020. Team boss Mattia Binotto experienced a tough season, but continued to fight for the team. This season Ferrari performed much better again with Leclerc and Sainz, so confidence for the new season is high. However, it remains to be seen whether they can compete with Red Bull and Mercedes in 2022.
