Oscar Piastri has received the 2021 Sir Jack Brabham Award in Australia for his performance in Formula 2 last season.

The driver switched from Formula 3 to Formula 2 in 2021, but that proved to be no problem for him. Piastri managed to take the world title immediately in his first season. The award, which he also received last year, therefore did not come out of the blue.

"I am very honoured to receive this award for the second consecutive year," Piastri proudly told Grandprix.com. "Obviously, the first time was special in itself but to do it again is just incredible." Daniel Ricciardo had the pleasure of receiving the award in 2014.

Opportunities in Formula 1 for Piastri

Piastri was hoping to get a chance in Formula 1 due to his rock-solid performance this year, but nothing came about. On the positions that became vacant, Formula 1 teams chose other drivers. Alfa Romeo, for example, decided to attract Guanyu Zhou to replace Antonio Giovinazzi. The Chinese will drive alongside Valtteri Bottas next season.
