Hamilton receives support: 'Oversimplification of the circumstances'

Max Verstappen finally managed to knock Lewis Hamilton off his throne at the end of 2021. The Dutchman managed to win the last race in Abu Dhabi, leaving Hamilton to settle for second place. According to Scott Mitchell the defeat of the Brit does not diminish his qualities, as he stated on The Race.
A seven-time World Champion, Hamilton has been very successful in Formula 1 for the past 15 years. The driver of Mercedes not only ensured victories, but was also a striking figure in the sport. With his seven world titles he is even on a par with Michael Schumacher.
Criticism of Hamilton unjustified
Nevertheless, Hamilton regularly receives criticism from the outside world. For example, the Brit was supposed to have been in the best car for years, so it would be 'logical' for the driver to win the world titles. Mitchell, however, sees it differently.
"There is no question that Hamilton has had more opportunities than most to win world championships but to boil his success down to 'he had a great car' – whether as a rookie or in recent years – is a huge oversimplification of the circumstances," wrote Mitchell, who has great respect for Verstappen. "Verstappen has worked very hard and developed constantly to be at a level high enough to become World Champion."
