The Race of Champions: legendary names compete on ice
- GPblog.com
Today is the day: the Race of Champions. Several well-known Formula 1 drivers are participating, namely Sebastian Vettel and Mick Schumacher. Valtteri Bottas was also supposed to participate, but he had to cancel at the last minute due to other commitments.
The Race of Champions is a perfect warm-up before the new motorsport season begins. The championship is back on the calendar for the first time since 2019 because of the pandemic. Legendary names from different championships will compete in identical cars. The challenge will be a bit greater this year, as this will be the first edition on ice.
Participants
Several famous names are competing in this edition. Team Germany consists of Vettel and Schumacher. The former World Champion has competed nine times and won once, so the German rookie can probably learn a lot from him. Bottas is no longer driving due to commitments at Alfa Romeo, but he will be replaced by W Series driver Emma Kimilainen. She will form team Finland together with Mika Hakkinen.
Rally champion Sebastien Loeb, IndyCar driver Colton Herta, NASCAR champion Jimmie Johnson, former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard, W Series champion Jamie Chadwick and Indy 500 winner Helio Castroneves are all also driving this weekend.
Wait for it.... @SchumacherMick is FLYING in the Polaris!
