Horner takes into account two additional challengers for the title this year
- GPblog.com
Red Bull Racing did not have a particularly strong second F1 testing day. Max Verstappen started the first day very strong, but during Sergio Perez 's day, there were especially many problems. Team boss Christian Horner had time to look at the competition and expects an exciting season.
Although Red Bull's problems were largely resolved during the lunch break, things are not running flawlessly at Red Bull Racing on the second day in Barcelona. The eyes are naturally on the team from Austria and their rival Mercedes AMG F1. The 2021 season was a titanic battle between the teams and between Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. One hopes for a resumption of this fight. Sky Sports F1 asked about the prospects for this season's title fight and whether it will again be between the two teams and the two drivers.
Horner fears more challengers
"I hope so. That's what everyone wants to see," Horner began. "The best drivers against each other wheel to wheel. I think Ferrari could be there this year as well. McLaren also seems strong. So possibly there are some other candidates this year as well." The team boss seems to rely entirely on the times and the stable number of laps that the drivers of McLaren and Ferrari drive in his outlook. Although that looks very decent for the time being with those two teams, it's always a matter of guessing during the second day of testing.
Within the ranks of Red Bull and Mercedes, Horner also expects a fiercer battle. Valtteri Bottas is no longer with Mercedes and in his place, junior George Russell has finally moved on. Horner: "Don't forget about Russell. He will also play a key role in this championship."
