'Mazepin must fear sudden departure after call-up'
- GPblog.com
Nikita Mazepin will face further uncertainties about his future in Formula 1 on Monday. This is because the Ukrainian motorsports federation has submitted a request to the FIA to send away all Russian licensees, ESPN reports.
It all has to do with Vladimir Putin's decision to invade neighbouring Ukraine with Russian soldiers. Not only foreign policy reacted furiously to the Russian attack, also in sports the anger was immediately felt. Haas decided to remove sponsor Uralkali and the Russian flag from the car.
With that Mazepin's position within the team was already under pressure, but with the request of the Ukrainian motorsport federation the problems for the Russian driver only seem to get bigger. The coming weeks should show whether Haas actually needs to look for a replacement for the upcoming season.
Mazepin has had a tough season
Mazepin did not have an easy season in Formula 1 last calendar year. The Russian often finished last during the Grands Prix and therefore did not manage to score any points for his team. Mick Schumacher was not able to do so either.
