Marko denies Ferrari lead: 'Red Bull drove with more fuel'
- GPblog.com
Ferrari came through the first winter test in Barcelona very well and, according to some, are even in a better position than Red Bull Racing and Mercedes. According to Helmut Marko, however, this is not the case.
Strong start of Ferrari
With the most kilometers driven, Ferrari came out on top at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The team from Maranello was the only one to drive more than 400 laps and was also the fastest on the C3 tire. Although it is only testing, the Italian formation seems to have good papers for this season.
In conversation with the German RTL Marko discusses the state of affairs. According to the Austrian, Ferrari currently has the best engine and the illustrious team has made a huge step forward in that area. This brings the stable of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc closer to the top, but it is not yet the best team, according to Marko.
Red Bull is still ahead
Red Bull's top man therefore denies that Ferrari is now ahead of Red Bull. According to Marko, the Austrian team drove with more fuel in Barcelona than the competition and so there are no worries in Max Verstappen's camp. ''In terms of speed we are not inferior to Mercedes and we are slightly ahead of Ferrari,'' Marko said.
Apart from the fact that there is still plenty of sandbagging going on in the winter test, the teams are also developing a lot at this stage of the season. With new regulations, the development curve is very steep. Marko, therefore, believes that fine-tuning the car will make the difference as to who is in the best position in Bahrain.
