F1 CEO expects continued battle Verstappen and Hamilton
- GPblog.com
Last season the Formula 1 world experienced an interesting battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton. Both men kept each other in balance for a long time and it was only decided in the last race which driver would receive the main prize. Stefano Domenicali expects a similar fight in 2022, he revealed to Seeking Alpha.
After Verstappen's victory, Hamilton didn't let anyone hear from him for two months. Where there were rumours that the seven-time World Champion would retire from Formula 1, he was still at the press presentation of Mercedes in February. It was to the relief of Domenicali who realises all too well that Hamilton is an important part of the sport.
"We look forward to this continued rivalry in 2022, between Max and Lewis, who will be returning to pursue his eighth World Championship," the Formula One CEO stated. "And we hope to see new drivers moving up the field to challenge for poses more regularly."
Red Bull and Mercedes face more competition
This season, the chances seem to be significant that Mercedes and Red Bull will not be the only teams fighting for the world title. Indeed, partly due to the new regulations, Ferrari and McLaren also made a big step forward. During the first race in Bahrain, which takes place on March 20, the teams will therefore want to start strongly.
