Christian Horner speaks up for Max Verstappen in an interview at the BBC on behalf of Max Verstappen. According to the Red Bull Racing team boss, incidents are always talked about, but the Dutchman will not change his aggressive driving style.
In 2021 Verstappen managed to secure his first world title in the last race of the season. The Red Bull driver had to fight hard for it, because in the final phase of the season Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes was much faster. This put Verstappen in duels where he clearly had to use his elbows.
Aggressive driving style of Verstappen
''We talk about any incident, but it's always going to be between me and him. Max is a forceful driver. He's an aggressive driver. And that driving style is why he was voted the most popular driver in Formula 1. You just know he is going to give 110%,'' says the Brit. He therefore wants Max to continue like this: ''Absolutely.''
So although the driving style remains the same, Horner does state that the Limburger must learn from different moments. ''You will always learn. And I think the way he drove last year, he showed tremendous maturity - and let's not forget the others make mistakes. Max is an aggressive driver. That's his DNA; that's who he is. Yes, he will always be close to the limit and he will only learn from his experiences. I've got no doubt about that,'' Horner concluded.
