Mercedes is working hard behind the scenes on the composition of the new car. Where doubts arose in recent days about the sidepods of the W13, Christian Horner announced on Thursday that they are legal in his opinion. Toto Wolff emphasized in conversation with Oe24.at that there is a lot of consultation between the FIA and Mercedes.
With the new regulations, the teams have a lot to think about at the beginning of this season. Where the cars must comply with the 2022 rules, it is up to the teams to find ways to make the car perform as well as possible. A good example of this is Mercedes' sidepods, which the FIA approved.
According to Wolff, at this stage of the season it is above all important to keep consulting. "Every step we take is coordinated with the FIA," he says in the interview. In the meantime, he is doing everything possible to give Lewis Hamilton and George Russell as many chances as possible for the world title. "Niki Lauda already said: only a fast car is a beautiful car. And that's what we're working on now."
Ferrari joins title contenders
However, Mercedes will not only face competition from Red Bull Racing this season, but must also watch out for Ferrari and McLaren. Next week, when the first Grand Prix in Bahrain is scheduled, the balance of power should become apparent.
