Hamilton stresses: 'A lot of people underestimate that'

Lewis Hamilton is embarking on a new season in Formula 1. The British driver was uncertain for a long time about whether he would continue in the sport for another season, but he finally decided to do so. For Hamilton, however, it was only natural for him to think about this.
The Mercedes driver has a rich Formula 1 career behind him with seven world championships won. Last season he also experienced a blistering championship battle with Max Verstappen which he eventually lost in Abu Dhabi.
Hamilton then decided to spend two months thinking about his future in motorsport. The driver had lost his trust in the race management for a while and therefore chose to stay behind the scenes for a period of time. In February, however, he was back at Mercedes' press day to present the new car.
Hamilton did not always have it easy
"A lot of people underestimate what it takes to be a world champion. There are so many moving parts, it’s not just turning up and driving the car. The question is, do you want to sacrifice the time?" explains Hamilton to the official website of Formula 1. "That’s a normal mental process for me."
