Max Verstappen hoped during the opening race in Bahrain to immediately score many points for his team, but the opposite was true. The double retirement of Verstappen and Sergio Perez means the team is still on zero points. Jan Lammers felt the pain of the Dutchman during the race.

The reigning world champion struggled in Bahrain against Ferrari, but still managed to hold on to second position for the majority of the race. Where Carlos Sainz tried to close up to Verstappen and give Ferrari a one-two punch, the Dutch driver continued to hold him off.

Frustrated Verstappen after Bahrain GP

Just before the end of the race, however, Verstappen suddenly had to drop out. The world champion of last season lost power and could do nothing but drive his car into the pits. Verstappen was frustrated as Lammers saw. The former Formula 1 driver made an attempt to describe the feeling on the NOS Formula 1 podcast.

"It's so frustrating, because you're just in that second place," Lammers told us. "And at the moment you talk, you think: 'Now I still have it.' But you see that has a shelf life of twenty to thirty seconds. That's very difficult to describe. Frustration, of course."
