Sainz honest about future: 'Nearly there'
- GPblog.com
Carlos Sainz is having a good time at Ferrari. Where the Italian racing team failed to find the connection to the top teams last season, it showed in the opening race in Bahrain that this will be the case in 2022. The Spaniard therefore hopes to sign on soon.
The driver joined Ferrari at the beginning of 2021 and experienced a difficult initial period. Sainz clearly had to get used to his new car, but was given time by Ferrari to make strides in his performance. It resulted in an excellent second half of the season in which he battled with teammate Charles Leclerc.
Last weekend in Bahrain he immediately showed what he is capable of, because with a second final position he could be quite satisfied. In the coming months Ferrari hopes to maintain its current form, although it must seriously consider competition from Mercedes and Red Bull Racing.
Sainz hopes for longer collaboration
Sainz is grateful to be able to race for Ferrari and therefore hopes to extend his contract, which runs until the end of this year, soon. "I think we are close. Very close. Very, very close. Very close. Extremely close. Nearly there," he reveals to Formula1.com, realizing that Ferrari would also like to continue with him.
