Perez and Gasly need to replace engine parts after failures in Bahrain
- GPblog.com
The first engine parts for 2022 have already been replaced on a number of drivers. After the failures during the Bahrain Grand Prix, Sergio Perez and Pierre Gasly have had several parts replaced. Fernando Alonso also has to go through the same process.
Even though Perez's problems in Bahrain had to do with the fuel supply, there has been damage to several parts of his RB18. Red Bull Racing introduced a new MGU-H and turbocharger to the Mexican.
For Gasly, the damage is even worse after his car caught fire in Bahrain. Like Perez, he is getting a new MGU-H and turbocharger, but the Frenchman also needs to have a new internal combustion engine, MGU-K, battery, control electronics and exhaust installed. A hefty list, but both drivers do not have to fear a grid penalty yet.
Problems for Alonso
The Alpine of Alonso has found a hydraulic problem in the engine, which means that the whole power unit has to be replaced. The Spaniard must therefore, like Gasly, replace many parts. For him there is also no grid penalty.
