Honda's form variation under investigation
Pierre Gasly had completely opposite results in Bahrain and China. Two races that were just one week apart.
Toyoharu Tanabe admits he’s unsure about why the results have been up and down. Many fans and pundits believe the 4th place finish was one of the biggest flukes the sport has seen this decade.
“I think the result in China came from the Toro Rosso Honda package,” said Honda technical director Tanabe.
“I can’t tell if it’s exactly from the chassis side or the power unit side.
“So we need to understand and we need to investigate the cause.
“We need to analyse - why it happened in China and why it happened in Bahrain, and then - make a plan for the future.”
One area that Honda has definitely improved on is their reliability. They’ve had just one engine problem that ended Gasly’s race in Australia.
“So far we haven’t seen any issues with the data,” added Tanabe.
“So at the moment, we are happy with the updated MGU-H.”
