Porsche is currently said to be in the process of partnering with Red Bull Racing starting in 2026. Paul di Resta, a former Formula 1 driver, would consider it a great step if the Volkswagen Group becomes active again at the highest level. At the same time, he finds it hard to imagine that both Porsche and Audi will become active in Formula 1.

"It would be an incredible partnership to get the Porsche name in and straight to winning ways," Di Resta told Sky Sports of the impending deal between Red Bull and the German brand.

In recent years Verstappen was very successful with the Honda engine, but the Japanese decided to step down after the 2021 season. Therefore, Red Bull decided to set up its own Powertrains project. So possibly from 2026, when new engine regulations will be introduced, it will get help from Porsche. The Volkswagen Group would reportedly like to see both Porsche and Audi in Formula 1, but Di Resta finds that difficult to imagine.

"Getting Porsche, rumours of Audi as well which I find harder because to get two manufactures under the same board and group fighting against each other and spending 100s of millions," says the Sky Sports analyst. Audi would like to pay hundreds of millions to work with McLaren, but they don't seem to want to pay good enough money to McLaren. Currently Sauber/Alfa Romeo would be in pole position.

'Quick' exit from Honda

Still, Di Resta thinks it is a shame that Honda has decided to turn its back on Formula 1 at such an early stage."Of course, it's a shame to lose Honda. Technically Honda still are there and they are backtracking in a sense. The decision was made before last year and winning the championship, at least they got something out of the investment."
