Max Verstappen did everything he could on Saturday morning to start at the front during the Australian Grand Prix. However, the final lap of rival Charles Leclerc made him lose out, so he had to settle for P2. In conversation with Viaplay he went into the qualification.

Red Bull Racing has been searching for the right form all weekend. As a result, Verstappen felt he was unable to get the best out of the car in both free practice and qualifying. Nevertheless, he seemed to be on his way to the fastest time, only to be unlucky that Leclerc outsmarted him.

"I just couldn't get it done," Verstappen stated. "That's a shame of course, but actually that's been the problem a bit all year. We just have to keep working on that, to get those little things done better. Then I'm sure we'll be in a better position again. I think today's gap is not quite it."

Verstappen remains realistic about situation

For the time being, there is no way overboard for Verstappen, as he will start the race from second place on Sunday morning. Although he realizes that he still has every chance for victory, he would have preferred the situation to be different. "Of course you want to be at the front in qualifying as well. Only now we have to overtake one car."
