Rain showers in Imola: wet track during qualifying and Sprint?
- GPblog.com
The 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was a true spectacle due to its start on a wet track. The 2022 edition might also be run on a wet track, but the greatest chance of rain is predicted for qualifying and the Sprint.
Threatening clouds towards Imola
The GP at the circuit of Imola is the first race this Formula 1 season in Europe and we notice that immediately by the temperature. Where the conditions during the races in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Australia were, as always, very hot, according to Weather.com on Friday in Imola it will not even be warmer than sixteen degrees.
Throughout the weekend it does get warmer, with maximum temperatures now set at 23 degrees on Saturday and 21 degrees on Sunday. Sunday also looks to be the best weather, with the forecast being partly cloudy and a 24 percent chance of rain.
Rain for qualifying and Sprint
On Friday and Saturday, it's a different story. On Wednesday and Thursday it is already going to rain in Imola and on Friday the track does not seem to get drier for the first free practice and qualifying. Light rain is predicted in addition to sixteen degrees and there is an 86 percent chance that it will rain that day.
After qualifying on Friday, there is a little more hope for dry conditions for Saturday. It will be warmer at 23 degrees, but showers are still predicted in the afternoon. The chance of rain on Saturday is estimated at 36 percent and is thus considerably lower than on Friday. However, teams and drivers would do well to keep an eye on the sky this weekend and go out at the right time.
