Lewis Hamilton did not manage to play a significant role in Imola. The Brit qualified in fourteenth place in the sprint race for Sunday's race and eventually finished thirteenth. It was therefore a weekend for him to forget quickly.

In recent years Mercedes got used to fighting for the world title with Hamilton, but this season it doesn't seem to be in the cards. The German racing stable is suffering from a lot of porpoising and seems to be dealing with problems on the car in other parts as well.

Hamilton struggles in Imola

Hamilton tried to make the best of it in Imola, but already realized in qualifying on Friday that not much would be possible in Italy. In the race, the Briton still worked hard to get past his predecessor Pierre Gasly, but the Frenchman defended well and managed to hold on to his 12th place.

"This was a chastening weekend for Hamilton," states Lawrence Barretto at Formula1.com. "It's his worst result since finishing eighteenth in Azerbaijan last year, when on the final restart with two laps to go he drove into an evasive corner while in the lead."
