The sixth race of the 2022 Formula E season will be held this weekend in Monaco. Like F1, the street circuit in the principality is a crown jewel event that many drivers want to win, but who stands the best chance this weekend?

Monaco ePrix

The Monaco ePrix will be held for the fifth time and the circuit has been on the calendar since the debut of the FE. In the sport's inaugural season (2014-2015), a shortened layout of the Monaco circuit was on the calendar and the race was won from pole position by Sebastien Buemi.

In the 2015-2016, 2017-2018 and 2019-2020 seasons, the race was not on the FE calendar, but in the intervening years, it was. Buemi also won the second edition in 2017 from the pole, after which Jean-Eric Vergne (2019) and Antonio Felix da Costa (2021) also showed that the pole in Monaco is crucial for victory. Since the 2020-2021 season, the entire Monaco circuit is used for the ePrix.

Vergne is the leader in the world championship and has managed this mainly by being very consistent. In the first five races, he finished in the points every time, on the podium twice, but not once as a winner yet. Robin Frijns follows on two points behind. He has been on the podium three times already, but also did not win a race yet in 2022.

Stoffel Vandoorne and Mitch Evans are also within ten points of the championship leader. Evans picked up the most points in the Double-Header in Rome, where he managed to win both races. Edoardo Mortara (P5 with 49 points), Pascal Wehrlein (P7 with 42 points) and Nyck de Vries (P8 with 38 points) are the other race winners this season.

The pole went to a Mercedes driver three times already this year, so Vandoorne and De Vries are automatically among the favourites in Monaco. Vergne took the last pole in Rome and has already won once in Monaco. Wehrlein took pole in Mexico when he also won the race. Robin Frijns is also a favourite, he has been in the qualifying knock-outs this year and Mitch Evans comes to Monaco with a lot of confidence after his victories in Rome.

Weather forecast

According to Weather.com it could be a spectacular edition in 2022 because showers are scheduled for Saturday in Monaco and the probability of rain is estimated at 61 percent. It is also not warm with a maximum temperature of eighteen degrees.
