Sergio Perez is still under contract with Red Bull Racing until the end of the season. The Mexican is performing as expected for the time being, but with Pierre Gasly as another option for 2023, a new commitment is not a certainty. FOX Sports asked him about the current situation and the hierarchy within Red Bull.

In any case, Perez himself does not want to think about a contract extension at all at the moment. His priority is to focus on the 2022 World Championship and the preparation for the next Grand Prix in Miami. Red Bull Racing itself has already hinted that there will be talks with Perez about his future during the summer break.

Team Orders Red Bull

Asked whether Perez would leave his current employer if he received an offer to become the number one driver at another racing team, he replied that Max Verstappen is currently the faster driver of the two, but that Red Bull does not take team orders for granted. The 32-year-old driver indicates that he can and does win races from Red Bull. Nor is Perez eliminated in the battle for the world championship, as he has only five points less than Verstappen.

Compared to last year, Perez at least seems to have made steps forward. 'Checo' states that he now knows the team and its engineers better and that this accelerates cooperation. Especially the fact that the Austrians are a very close team impresses Perez.
