Sainz wants more rest during weekend: 'Thursday and Friday are longer'
- GPblog.com
If it is up to Carlos Sainz, the sprint weekends are going to change. The Spaniard thinks that Formula 1 should change the format and says that the drivers are already in talks with the FOM and FIA about the possible changes.
Since 2021, Formula 1 has had some sprint races on the calendar. Like last year, three sprint weekends are scheduled again in 2022, the first of which was in Imola. Next year, there may be six sprint races.
Thursday and Friday getting busier
According to Sainz, the weekends are becoming too busy for the F1 drivers and therefore the drivers are in talks with the FOM and FIA to make changes. Sainz says according to MotorsportWeek.com that there is a lot of potential and that the calendar will continue to expand. "But for some reason that maybe we didn’t expect this year, both Thursday and Friday have become a lot longer for the drivers."
According to Sainz, the drivers have to speak to the media more and more often and there are also more and more activities planned during a weekend. All this while the F1 calendar continues to grow. "So, we are going to need to find a way to control this in a more efficient way, let’s say," concludes the Ferrari driver.
