Tactical PU change for Leclerc ahead of Miami Grand Prix
- GPblog.com
Charles Leclerc will be able to benefit from a fresh power unit this weekend. The FIA has confirmed that Ferrari has made a tactical engine change to the Ferrari of the Monegasque. The customer teams of the Italians have also been provided with a new engine, except for the Ferrari of Carlos Sainz.
Five of the six cars with a Ferrari engine will benefit from a fresh power unit this weekend. The Alfa Romeo and Haas cars, like Leclerc, will change engines this weekend. The team has chosen not to replace Sainz's engine, but after his two DNFs in a row, the Spaniard's PU has not had that many miles yet.
In addition to Leclerc's engine, the internal combustion engine, MGU-H, MGU-K and the exhaust system have also been replaced. At the new Miami circuit, the fresh power source will come in handy. So the change has nothing to do with reliability.
No new parts at Red Bull
At Red Bull Racing, no parts have been replaced. Pierre Gasly is the only driver besides Leclerc and the Ferrari customer teams who has also replaced his engine.
