F1 World Championship standings | Vertappen cuts gap to Leclerc
- GPblog.com
After the Australian Grand Prix, the gap between Charles Leclerc and Max Verstappen was big, but thanks to victories by the Red Bull Racing driver in Imola and Miami, the gap is down to 19 points. Sergio Perez is still the number three after five Grands Prix in 2022.
Verstappen crossed the finish line first in the streets of Miami and moreover, he recorded the fastest lap of the day in the closing stages. This gave him the maximum 26 points, while rival Leclerc had to settle for eighteen points. So the gap has narrowed again.
Carlos Sainz grabbed a podium place but still has to put Perez and George Russell ahead of him. Alexander Albon managed to drive into the points for the second time. Started from P18, he finished tenth and scored one World Cup point again: a great achievement for the young Briton.
