Despite the problems at Mercedes, George Russell is delivering excellent results. The Briton has finished in the top five during every race so far. Giancarlo Minardi does not find it surprising that Russell is currently performing better than Lewis Hamilton.

Russell is currently in fourth place in the drivers' championship with a 23-point lead over Hamilton. The seven-time world champion seems to be having a harder time driving the W13. The car suffers from a lot of porpoising and other problems. However, because of his time at Williams, Minardi is not surprised that Russell has better control of the car.

"You only have to look at his results in the categories that preceded Formula One. In addition, for a long time he drove a very slow car, which emerged in certain circumstances. Therefore, I think he is now better prepared for a lesser situation than a Hamilton who by now had become accustomed to driving extremely powerful cars without any particular problems", he tells OASport.

Hamilton to take early retirement?

Minardi is not sure whether Hamilton might retire early because of Mercedes' lesser form. "I don't know, we'll see. The situation at Mercedes is certainly evolving and the choice of Russell is a clear sign for the future."
