Lewis Hamilton is no longer among the top ten highest paid athletes of 2022. Following his eighth spot in 2021, the Briton has this year dropped out of the list of Forbes.
In 2021, Hamilton's earnings were estimated by Forbes to be $82 million, putting him in eighth place among the highest paid athletes in the world. In 2017, he was still in tenth place. The Briton earns quite a bit of money with the Mercedes team and also gets paid well through multiple sponsorship deals.
His total income, according to Forbes, would have decreased in recent months, because to get into the top ten the seven-time world champion would have to earn at least $80.9 million. This year, however, Hamilton is missing from the list.
Best earning F1 drivers
Footballer Lionel Messi tops the list this year. His income would have risen to $130 million. Lebron James, Cristiano Ronaldo, Roger Federer and Tom Brady are also in the top ten. The list is compiled based on incomes between May 1, 2021 and May 1, 2022.
Last year, Forbes also compiled a list of the top ten highest-earning Formula One drivers. That Hamilton topped the list with his seven world titles under his belt was no surprise. Max Verstappen was in second place in 2021.
