Alexander Albon will not be in action this Friday during the first session of the Spanish Grand Prix. Nyck de Vries will in fact drive FP1 for Williams. Albon thinks that Spain is an ideal moment for this.
Spain ideal moment for Albon and De Vries
F1 teams are all required to give at least two rookies a chance to drive a session in F1 per season. At Williams, the choice was made early in the year to let the reigning Formula E champion drive in place of regular driver Albon. In a press statement from the team, Albon says he is looking forward to the race and has no problem with having to lend his Williams for an hour.
"It will be good to go back to Barcelona. I'm curious to see how much the car has improved since the last time we were there for the winter tests. It's a good track that every driver has driven countless laps on. That familiarity with the track is going to help me get into rhythm faster this weekend after missing FP1 when Nyck is in the car."
Albon is looking for more points. In Miami, the British Thai drove another rock-solid race and picked up two points. With his total of three points, he is already well on his way by Williams standards. With one more point, Albon is on par with Sebastian Vettel.
