Leclerc frustrated with Ferrari: "There's been a lot of mistakes"
Charles Leclerc finally finished a home race in Monaco, but perhaps the pain is worse for the Ferrari driver. The man from Monaco started the race from pole position, but a huge strategic blunder cost him the race win and some big points in the World Championship.
Frustration for Leclerc
Leclerc was left frustrated with his Ferrari team. They double-stacked him behind Carlos Sainz which cost him track position to his teammate. With this loss of time in the pits, Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez were able to do an overcut. Leclerc gives his first reflection.
"Let down is not the word, sometimes mistakes can happen. But there's been too many mistakes today overall. In those conditions you rely on what the team can see, because you don't see what the others are doing on inters or dry. I was asked questions about whether I wanted wets to slicks, 'I said yes not now.' I don't understand what made us change our minds," Leclerc told Sky Sports.
"There's been a lot of mistakes and we cannot afford to do that. It's hard, I am getting used to being disappointed here. We cannot do that in the moment we are in. We are extremely strong, we have to take those opportunities. I love my team and I am sure we will come back stronger, it hurts a lot," Leclerc concluded.
At the end of the race, Leclerc was nose to tail with his World Championship rival, but couldn't find the space in the streets of Monaco to pull the overtake.
