In 2018, Daniel Ricciardo won the Monaco Grand Prix, but last Sunday he finished only thirteenth. The 32-year-old driver is very disappointed with the result and hopes that he can gain points soon.
On Friday in Monaco, things already went wrong for Ricciardo when he crashed. During qualifying, he did not get further than P14, while teammate Lando Norris managed to finish fifth. The Australian has been struggling since coming to McLaren in 2021, but Ricciardo had hoped for better results in his second season for the team.
"Obviously, a tough weekend to take, unfortunately, I’m experienced with these – had a few of them the last 12 months, so I feel like I can handle them a little bit better," Ricciardo is quoted on [F1.com. The Australian is currently in 11th place in the drivers' championship, 37 points behind Norris.
Ricciardo tries to keep smiling
The McLaren driver is hoping to recover for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in two weeks. "Therefore, I will continue to smile or at least try to smile but deep down I'm obviously disappointed. You need to be at one with the car; for sure if you’re not quite there it can show on the stopwatch."
