'Ferrari approves Leclerc's Barcelona engine after thorough checks'
- GPblog.com
Ferrari started the 2022 Formula 1 season strong and especially excelled in reliability, but that the Italian racing team is not immortal was proven in the Spanish Grand Prix. Charles Leclerc crashed out from the leading position and the team feared that his engine was beyond saving, but it seems that the part does not have to be written off after all.
'Barcelona engine Leclerc not written off'
According to the latest reports from Italian media, Ferrari would have fitted Leclerc's stricken engine with a new MGU-H and Turbo, after which the part would have been subjected to thorough checks.
This would have shown that the second engine from Leclerc's pool can be used again and therefore does not have to be written off. It is not yet known whether Ferrari intends to deploy the engine as early as this weekend in Baku.
