Mick Schumacher drove in Formula 2 for the Prema team in 2019, but in his first season the German finished in twelfth place in the world championship. A year later, he suddenly became champion, and Olav Mol thinks Schumacher didn't owe that to himself.

Schumacher's position at Haas F1 is under pressure. The 23-year-old driver has already completely written off his car twice this year, in Jeddah and in Monaco. As a result, he has scored no points, while the unprepared Kevin Magnussen has managed to collect 15 to date. Criticism of Schumacher is growing.

"I don't think it's so sad either," Mol begins to explain in the Race Cafe On Ziggo Sport. Presenter Rob Kamphues asks the F1 commentator if he doesn't like Schumacher Jr. "Listen, if you are there, you are there. Then you have the right to be there, because otherwise you wouldn't have been there. But if he had been called Bakker by his last name, he would never have been in that car."

Did Schumacher get F2 title 'gift'?

According to Mol, the Haas F1 driver is not as talented as people think and he owes his spot in Formula 1 to his name. Moreover, he suspects that Schumacher's F2 championship did not come about entirely on his own. He would have received help from above.

"Look again at that Formula 2 season of his. That was nothing at all. Then there were stories that he could go to Haas. All of a sudden he had a rocket start at Monza from P7 and drove fastest race laps. I know the world of Formula 2 a little bit: people are just screwing around. There is help," Mol explains.
