FP3 Report | Verstappen looking unbeatable around Silverstone
- Rafael Diaz Lehmann
It was Max Verstappen who topped the final practice session of the weekend, and looks unstoppable, clearing his teammate in second place by almost half-a-second.
The threat of rain was in all the team's minds heading into the final practice session of the weekend, causing a flurry of activity throughout the session. Lap after lap, it seemed that the fastest lap times would never stop. That was until Max Verstappen reached the top of the timings, and never let go of that spot from that moment onwards.
Verstappen Unstoppable
Max Verstappen was the man to beat for the entire session. Lap after lap, the reigning World Champion would set the sector times alight and pump in purple times, which were unreachable by the others. In the end, the Dutchman was close to half-a-second ahead of his teammate Sergio Perez in second, and rival Charles Leclerc in third place.
Mercedes Resurgent
After a disasterous and disappointing start to the season, Mercedes seem to have finally found the pace that their car is capable of after two competitive practice sessions in Silverstone. Yesterday, it was Hamilton in P2 when the Checkered Flag waved for FP2, and today both Hamilton and Russell ended up fourth and fifth in FP3. It seems that the Silverstone crowd are channelling in their energy for Russell and Lewis, who'll both be looking to make an impact in Qualifying and the Race.
Threat of Rain
Heading into Qualifying, it isn't sure as to what the weather will present for the drivers and teams. Last time out in Canada was also a wet Quali, to which Max Verstappen mastered. With the Dutchman looking supreme both in the dry and the wet, can anyone stop him?
