Zhou seems fully fit: "See you guys in Austria"
- GPblog.com
Guanyu Zhou was involved in a hair-raising crash at the start of the F1 race at Silverstone. The Alfa Romeo F1 Team driver went through the eye of the needle thanks to the halo on his car. All his 'fellow drivers' supported the Chinese on social media and he seems to be back to full fitness according to the latest reports.
Zhou is back in Austria
Zhou ended up upside down on the asphalt just after the start. Because the cars were already at high speed, he slid with his car upside down on the asphalt, through the gravel and across the tyre pile against a fence that was standing in front of the grandstands. Although the images looked horrifying, Zhou was able to report that he was okay fairly quickly after the crash. The day after the crash, he even seems to be top fit again and says he will get back into the car this week.
It is good news for the driver who will make his F1 debut with Alfa Romeo this year. On Instagram he wrote: "Hi everyone! Thanks for all the kind messages. I want to thank the marshals and the medical team at Silverstone. They were really fantastic. I am now more keen than ever to be back on the track. I'll see you in Austria!" So we will see Zhou back on track at the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix.
Lots of support for Zhou after heavy crash
After the race, almost all drivers with social media channels posted messages of support to the Chinese. See below a selection of the Instagram messages from different F1 drivers.
