Statistics | Verstappen ahead of Leclerc, Red Bull swaps with Ferrari
- GPblog.com
Max Verstappen took pole position in Austria, but failed to reach the top step of the podium as he was beaten in the race by Charles Leclerc. Nevertheless, the Dutchman broke a record held by the Monegasque. These are the figures and statistics after the Austrian Grand Prix.
Verstappen overtakes Leclerc
Ferrari won their second race in a row after a run of bad races, all of which were won by Red Bull Racing. However, the team was again unable to celebrate as Carlos Sainz crashed out in Austria with an exploded engine. Although Leclerc won the race, Verstappen passed him by one place in the pole position list. With sixteen pole positions, Verstappen now has a one Saturday lead over the Ferrari driver.
Verstappen overtakes Bottas
Verstappen didn't win the race, but his P2 did land him on the podium. It means that the Red Bull driver is overtaking Valtteri Bottas on the list of most podiums. Last race, the Dutchman was still tied with the Finn and both had 67 podiums to their names. Verstappen is currently on 68 podiums in his F1 career and is thus the shared number eight in the list. Rubens Barichello also scored 68.
Ferrari and Red Bull seem to share the performance equally
The final striking statistic after the race in Austria is the distribution of pole positions and victories in 2022. Whereas Ferrari seems fastest on the Saturdays with seven pole positions, Red Bull is best on the Sundays with seven wins. The two teams divided the performances over the eleven races. Red Bull took the remaining four pole positions and Ferrari the remaining four wins.
