Christian Horner expects Mercedes to be quick at Paul Ricard for the French Grand Prix. The Red Bull team boss believes the team is slowly rejoining the battle for victories.

Lewis Hamilton again finished third for the Austrian Grand Prix, while George Russell finished fourth. Mercedes has had a difficult season, but slowly the team is coming back with strong results.

"We expect them [Mercedes] to be quick in [Paul] Ricard. They’re showing flashes of they being there. The last two races have been really decent for them and there has been no sign of any porpoising at all. They seem to be slowly bringing themselves back into the game", Horner is quoted by Motorslat.

Horner: 'Good to have more cars to play'

Mercedes are now well behind in the championship. The difference with leader Red Bull Racing is 122 points, while the gap with Ferrari is 66 points. Nevertheless, Mercedes has scored a lot of points in the past few races, partly due to Ferrari's DNF's.

"They keep continuedly scoring points, I’m not sure how far they are in the constructors’ or drivers’ [championships] at the moment, but sometimes have more cars to play is a good thing", says the British team boss. Especially for the fans, it will be great to see six teams fighting for wins, Horner believes.
