Marko lashes out: 'At Mercedes, everything always becomes political'
- GPblog.com
Helmut Marko thinks it is a shame that Charles Leclerc and Ferrari are making a lot of mistakes in the fight for the title. The Austrian enjoys battling the Italian team, something that was not always the case with Mercedes in 2021.
In his post-race interviews, Marko showed compassion for Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque ended up in the wall by his own mistake and took home zero points. Title rival Max Verstappen is now further ahead in the driver's championship.
In conversation with Österreich, Marko is asked about his relationship with Ferrari compared to competitor Mercedes. The relationship with the Italians seems to be a lot better. In 2021, Red Bull became involved in a heated battle with Mercedes, both on and off the track. It was sometimes fierce between team bosses Toto Wolff and Christian Horner. With Ferrari, the title fight is a lot calmer.
'Everything becomes political at Mercedes'
"From a sporting point of view, we are in agreement. It is a pity that Leclerc and Ferrari always make mistakes in the duel with us. With Mercedes, everything always becomes political", the Red Bull advisor says.
In an earlier interview, Marko said Red Bull could go into the summer break with a good feeling if they secure two more victories. Verstappen took a win in France, and victory at the Hungaroring may follow this weekend.
