McLaren looking for even more speed: 'Strong foundations laid'
- GPblog.com
McLaren made a big surprise during FP2 in Hungary by setting fast times. There is little to gain on Friday, so the team will be looking for more speed to turn today's strong base into a good result.
McLaren works hard to make the most of strong starting point
Team boss Zak Brown had nothing but pride on Twitter. Daniel Ricciardo set fifth fastest time of the session just behind Max Verstappen and Lando Norris was the surprise with a P2, splitting the two Ferraris. It is a strong result for the disappointing team this year. Brown is pleased with today's performance, but is aware that the team has nothing in the bag yet.
Brown wrote in a tweet: "A positive day on track for the team in Hungary. P2 for Lando and P5 for Daniel is a strong base to build on to Saturday. We will be working hard tonight to maximise the speed." If McLaren are able to carry this performance into tomorrow and even improve on it, then they can compete at the forefront of qualifying in the race. Norris was clear to the press if the team could also compete for pole position. The Briton said a resounding 'no'.
