Sainz also plagued by Ferrari mistake: "First slow pitstop cost me"
Once again, Ferrari are left scratching their heads with a poor performance in Hungary. The style of the track plays into the hands of the 2022 Ferrari car but both drivers lost places during the race.
Strategy error
For Leclerc, Ferrari reacted to Red Bull's pitstop needlessly and therefore had to place the hard tyres on his car. As predicted by most in the paddock, the hard tyre didn't work and therefore this left Leclerc in sixth place. His teammate, Carlos Sainz wasn't immune from the Ferrari mistakes.
"We clearly struggled as a team. The first slow pitstop cost me the overcut on George [Russell] which would've simplified the race without the dirty air. It is what it is. It's true now and then pitstops are failing us, we want to be stronger from the summer break," Sainz told Sky Sports.
On Friday, Ferrari dominated the race pace lap times. But much cooler conditions, mixed with a little bit of rain, cost Ferrari. It seems as if the team went with the wrong set-up change, with Sainz wants to analyse.
"I think today we're a bit puzzled we expected a great race pace from Friday. The lower temperature and track condition changed. There was something going on with the car and the tyre. Something to analyse, a day to look back and regroup and see what we did wrong in these conditions. Come back after the summer break with a better package," he added.
